Hi all,

An article from the April 24th edition of The Vancouver Sun (Business). Excerpts:

British Columbia`s transportation gateway to the Asia Pacific region, now a weak spot in the economy, will be one of the keys to the province`s economic recovery, a prominent economist said Thursday.

"We are in a recession, we are not excluded from this global economic downdraft," Finlayson said, though he contends B.C. won`t sink as deeply as other provinces.

Finlayson believes B.C. is well-positioned to take part in economic recovery, though how strong that recovery is "really hinges on what happens globally."

He said B.C. has the potential to benefit from the rising importance of Asia in the world economy and recovery of demand for commodities within the region, including demand for energy.

He said B.C., with Vancouver as a gateway, is also well-positioned to cater to rising demands in the Asia Pacific region for the export of high-end goods and services and environmentally friendly green products.
