Canada`s job market has been fairly soft in 2013`the national unemployment rate still hovers above 7 per cent. It`s even more difficult for young people, where unemployment is nearly double at 14.1 per cent. But as is the case with most job seekers, young people may want to consider a move to Alberta.







Over the last three years, Alberta has added some 6,500 jobs for people aged 15 to 24. That`s a small fraction of the 209,000 total new jobs for Albertans in all age categories, but it is a big improvement over the situation for youth employment elsewhere. Only two other provinces`Saskatchewan and Newfoundland and Labrador`managed to add jobs for youth at all. The other seven provinces saw losses.

Repeat home sales in Caglary see biggest gain




CALGARY - Prices for repeat home sales in Calgary rose by the biggest percentage in Canada in August compared with a year ago, according to the Teranet-National Bank House Price Index.




The index, released Thursday, said year-over-year price growth in Calgary was 6.5 per cent while in Canada, for the 11 centres surveyed, it was 2.3 per cent.

Calgary council may resurrect controversial secondary suite debate to deal with flood housing crunch




The city`s search for post-flood housing options could resurrect the controversial debate allowing secondary suites across Calgary.





With a suite of options bureaucrats are offering council, the city`s residential building policies could change as a direct result of the historic June deluge.





On Monday, council will receive a report on several innovative housing options identified to deal with an expected looming vacancy crunch, the extent of which has not been determined.

Alberta job vacancy rate highest in Canada




CALGARY ` Alberta had the highest job vacancy rate in the country in June, according to Statistics Canada.




The federal agency reported Tuesday that Alberta businesses had 46,600 job vacancies in June, down from 64,500 in June 2012.
