Moncton poised for jobs boom: Survey
Metro Moncton is on the verge of another hiring boom, especially in manufacturing, which bodes well for the overall economy and job hunters coming into town, the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey suggests.
Released yesterday, the survey indicates that 40 per cent of employers in Moncton plan to hire more employees during the upcoming quarter (October-December), and 60 per cent expect to maintain their current staffing levels.
"Moncton really soared to the top in this one with a 40 per cent increase ... the highest in the country, when you consider that Mississauga had 30 per cent," Mindy Stoltz of Manpower`s Moncton office said yesterday.
She said manufacturing companies were the dominant force in the increase. For the purposes of the survey, manufacturing includes both durable goods and non-durable goods. There is a wide range of manufacturers in Metro Moncton that create everything from video games and specialized computer software to doors and windows and heavy equipment for the mining and oil industries. Non-durable goods include consumables like food and beverage products.
Kathy Malley of Malley Industries in Moncton said there is a general feeling of optimism among local manufacturers and more jobs will be coming over the next several years.
