At the Calgary REIN meeting Don mentioned that a GPS that tracks/logs mileage can come in handy for reporting mileage to your accountant.

I`m doing a little research and have found that most can log trips. I am having some issues in finding out whether they can print or export the logs in a useful manner.

I went to Future Shop to take a peek but as soon as I mentioned the exporting/printing requirement the sales guys eyes glazed over.

This would come in very handy for both real estate and my regular job. Not to mention it appeals to my inner geek.

Does anyone have a model they are happy with and exports data nicely? The ability to designate business and personal would also come in handy.

Thanks,
Ryan

I would note that, besides milage, the a good GPS can be a huge help navigating a neighborhood you`re scouting, and provide a track of where you`ve for later reference.

http://radioworld.ca/ has a good selection of units, and can speak intelligently on the different units. I got my Zumo from there, and absolutely love it.

Hi Ryan,
I remember seeing something like that in Canadian Tire flyer. Other option could the following solution from Calgary company:

Ryan,

Since you`re in Calgary, you should also check out GPS Central (www.gpscentral.ca), GPS City (www.gpscity.ca), and Map Town (www.maptown.com) - all three of which are Calgary based companies, and are specialists unlike the fine folks working at Future Shop, Best Buy, and the like.

I have a very low-end car unit that is a HUGE help in finding properties, but doesn`t do the trip recording that Don mentioned, or the many other features found in some units.

My realtor has a much higher end unit that I`ve noticed is much more responsive to the touch-screen commands, and does lots of other features such as play music and display pictures - most of which he has said are not practical to have in a GPS, and if done again he wouldn`t have paid that much for one just for the extra features. I don`t know if his does trip tracking.
