U.S. states with the biggest changes in unemployment



WASHINGTON ` The number of people applying for U.S. unemployment benefits fell 23,000 to a seasonally adjusted 298,000 last week, indicating of a healthier job market.





Here are the states with the biggest increases in applications. No states reported substantial declines. The state data are for the week ended Nov. 16, one week behind the national figures:





California: Up 8,326, due to layoffs in service industry, agriculture, forestry and fishing

US job openings and number of workers quitting hit 5-year highs, a hopeful sign for unemployed





WASHINGTON - U.S. employers advertised the most job openings in more than five years in October, and the number of people quitting also reached a five-year high.








The Labor Department said Tuesday that job openings rose 1 per cent to a seasonally adjusted 3.93 million. That is the highest figure since May 2008, three months after the Great Recession began.

Survey shows US homebuilders' confidence and outlook for sales into next year improving





U.S. homebuilders' confidence bounced back strongly this month, suggesting many will ramp up construction and hiring in coming months.








The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo builder sentiment index climbed to 58. That's up from 54 in November and matched an eight-year high reached in August. Readings above 50 indicate more builders view sales conditions as good, rather than poor.
