Alberta faces a critical need to upgrade the infrastructure surrounding the oilsands and the province`s GDP growth will lead the country this year, says a report by Scotia Economics.

The report says Alberta is forecast in 2008 to see 3.2 per cent economic growth and regain the provincial lead it lost to Newfoundland in 2007.

Scotia Economics says real GDP growth in Newfoundland is estimated at 6.5 per cent in 2007 while Alberta is 4.4 per cent.
