Vancouver Leads Canada in New Home Price Decline

Vancouver saw the steepest decline in new-home prices from March to April, Statistics Canada reported Wednesday.

Builders saw their contract prices for new homes drop 1.2 per cent in April, with prices down nine per cent from the same month a year ago, as builders continued to lower prices to encourage sales.

Vancouver`s year-over-year decline in prices wasn`t as steep as the drop in Edmonton, which saw prices fall 12.5 per cent in April from the same month a year ago.

However, price declines in Edmonton appeared to be slowing. From March to April, Edmonton prices were down 0.9 per cent.
