Can anyone tell me about situations where a strata is attached to a lot (but apparently not the building)? We put an offer in on a duplex and in the disclosure statement there was indication of a strata attached to the lot the property sat on (each side) with a monthly cost. When we asked the realtor about this we were told that this was a general occurrence in this town but the strata fee generally isn`t collected anyway. The realtor also couldn`t tell us who owned the strata or whether someone at some point could decide to start collecting.
Is this normal? Have other people come across this?
