If it happened in cities like Vancouver, Abbotsford, Victoria, Kelowna or Ottawa, the real estate boom underway in Saskatoon would not include such a massive number of condominium conversions - because it wouldn`t be legal to force so many apartment tenants out of their homes in a tight rental market.
That`s the upshot of a report delivered to city council`s executive committee Monday.
Councillors, however, aren`t ready to talk about it while the city`s top lawyer is preparing to "vigorously oppose" a court challenge launched by a group of tenants whose downtown highrise recently won council`s permission to convert.
