Millennials and the American dream





Based on a report released by The Demand Institute, Millennials and Their Homes: Still Seeking the American Dream:

  • In the next five years, 8.3 million new millennial (Gen Y) households will form. It is predicted that millennials will spend $1.6 trillion on home purchases and $600 billion on rent.
    The generation is optimistic: 79% expect their financial situation to improve and 74% expect to move within the next five years.

Watch California dry up right before your eyes





California is drying up.





`This is a big deal,` California Governor Jerry Brown said at a ceremony Tuesday as he signed into law a trio of bills regulating, for the first time, the state`s groundwater use. As of Thursday, almost 60 percent of the state is facing "exceptional drought," the most severe level of dryness measured by the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Washington hears of Plan B for exporting oil





WASHINGTON - With pipeline plans facing opposition in the West, the East, and the South, a Canadian premier is in the U.S. this week promoting an alternate route for exporting oil: the North.





The premier of the Northwest Territories has been in the American capital promoting an "Arctic Gateway" to carry oil through his region to international markets.

California drought pushes local food prices higher





Continued drought affecting California`s productive Central Valley could push the prices of some fruits and vegetables in B.C. grocery stores up 34 per cent this year, according to a new study commissioned by Vancity.





B.C. farmers are poorly positioned to pick up the slack should major price shocks and limited supply disrupt our access to many popular fruits and vegetables, according to the author, Brent Mansfield of the University of B.C.`s faculty of land and food systems

Housing prices in popular U.S. snowbird states still below 2006 levels





TORONTO - Housing prices in popular U.S. snowbird destinations are rising but are still below peak levels seen in 2006, says a new report.





The outlook by BMO Financial Group (TSX:BMO.TO - News) says overall, housing prices in the U.S. have increased by 20 per cent in the last two years, but are only about halfway to the peak levels seen eight years ago.
