These highrises were going to be retail but the market isn't there. If you own near DT Edmonton (Queen Mary Park), you need to be aware of your competition. We are in the biggest rental boom in Edmonton since the early 1980s with much worse overbuilding.

^ I read that in the Sun on Friday. If I was a teacher you can bet I would be on that gravy train. Next government is going to have make cuts / spend with restraint without cutting frontline workers. Whatever that means. Time for unions to lock in big raises is right now.

AB teachers are the best paid in the country. I believe the NDP will in late 2018 / 2019 when they realize they are done lock in massive wage increases for all public sector unions, for ten years, as a parting gift. Under an NDP leadership any province is seriously hamstrung. Watch MB's election next month as they will likely be turfed after 16 years of mismanagement and waste. With luck, it will take only 4 in AB, but since neither WR nor PC party has shown any attempt to merge nor any serious attempt to discuss adult measures to balance a budget, such as introducing a PST, gasoline taxes or wage cuts in the public sector the jury is still out .. AB has a few painful 3-8 years to adjust to a low oil & gas world.
